Screen Shot 2015-10-30 at 12.31.01 PMDear Lower Lab Community,

I cannot believe another month has flown by. October has been an amazing month of learning, enrichment and fun, culminating with the school’s fabulous Storybook Character Day! OMG the creativity was unbelievable and who will ever forget our very own Miss Trunchbull?

The classrooms are abuzz with publishing parties as students are wrapping up some of their units of study – habits of good readers, reading analytically and writing personal narratives. Students are working hard in math, investigating and manipulating numbers, fractions, decimals and more.

This month, we also saw the opening of the Digital Media Center. Now, our 2nd through 5th grade students go to the DMC, twice a week, to develop their technology skills and understandings. Special thanks go to the parents for their generous support of this project, to Mr. Mike Goodman who is overseeing the program and to the teachers who are integrating it into their curriculum.

In Science, supporting the study of animal diversity, 2nd graders participated in the very exciting Art Farm and 1st graders will have a similar event on November 9th. Today, Gabby from the Art Farm brought birds into the Kindergarten classrooms, which totally thrilled our youngest students.

Art students have been making fantastic vintage‐inspired portraits. Music students are already working hard to prepare for the culminating concert in the spring, and NDI is getting ready for the big performance on November 20th.

TAs continue to provide awesome support everywhere. They are terrific in the classrooms during instructional time, but it is especially fun to watch them playing and refereeing sports at lunch – what a great group!

Recess and lunch are going very smoothly, thanks to parent volunteers, TA’s, and the supervision of Elana Hoffman and Sam Chan. Children are also enjoying opportunities during recess to participate in Mighty Milers, Chess, Art Club, Goodman’s Games and Chorus. {notably our brand new chorus sang the Star Spangled Banner at an assembly for the Ronald McDonald Fun Run}.

Fifth graders are also now able to enjoy Mingle Mondays, during which they can eat lunch with their friends across the grade, rather than just their class. We anticipate that Mingle Tuesdays will be coming soon.
