Louie, head coach of Big Apple Youth Sports (www.BigAppleYouthSports.org) has generously donated an opportunity to create a Basketball team of your child’s friends as part of his competitive, yet fun Saturday Basketball League. Several Lower Lab students are active participants in Big Apple’s Basketball League and have watched their children improve and grow through the different levels of play. This item is for new players only…or one of them would have jumped on it already!
Big Apple Basketball is a chance for children to experience league play with instruction and developmental, age appropriate coaching at the same time. Big Apple’s co-ed basketball leagues meet Saturday mornings in the RFK gym on 88th St (between Park and Lex). The league begins with 2 general practice sessions to go over general rules, and develop skills. Weekly games begin with a pre-game warm up, and shoot-around. Players are rotated in and out of 4 on 4 game play, teaching team play skills, sportsmanship, patience, and gracious winning and losing.
There are 2 levels of league play. Pee-wee for grades 1-3 (game time at 8:45AM, or 9:45AM), and Minor for grades 4-6 (game time at 11AM, or 12PM). All teams are co-ed.
The Spring League begins with practices on 3/12 and 3/19. The game season runs from 4/2-6/4. All players get a team uniform, and take part in a trophy ceremony at season’s end.
Big Apple Youth Sports is an Upper East Side institution offering afterschool instruction at PS6 and PS151 as well as Baseball, Dodgeball, and Basketball leagues across many age groups. Visit their website: http://www.bigappleyouthsports.org/index.html
