We are pleased to share that the DOE has updated these guidelines to provide school communities with additional clarity and strengthen existing direction. To better enable you and your staff to support all students, including transgender and gender non-conforming students, the following are among the changes that have been made to the guidelines: guidance about pronoun usage, an expanded definitions and terminology section, a new section outlining supports and resources, and clarity on student records. The complete guidelines can be accessed here.

These updates have been in process for over a year and incorporate feedback we have received from schools, students, families, partners, and other community members. This is part of our ongoing work to ensure all students have the supports they need to feel comfortable in school and succeed in the classroom and beyond.
