Welcome back to school! I hope your child is excited about the upcoming year in physical education class. In September, all grade levels discuss the importance of physical education and leading a healthy lifestyle.
In Kindergarten through 2nd grade, students participate in activities that develop spatial awareness and body control. We practice movements such as walking, skipping and galloping. Students participate in activities that develop spatial awareness and body control. 1st and 2nd graders practice the movements at different speeds and pathways around the court. We place special emphasis on students effort, enthusiasm and sportsmanship.
In 3rd through 5th grade, students participate in aerobic activities such as jogging, jump ropes and jumping jacks. In addition, students participate in the pacer test, a fitnessgram test of aerobic endurance. We discuss the importance of aerobic or cardiovascular exercise in both general exercise and sports. Students in the 4th and 5th grade will learn how to calculate their heart rate. Finally, students will be placed into teams for the soccer unit.
