PE

Dear families,

For November, our students will practice exercises that develop muscular strength and endurance such as push-ups, curl-ups, squats and lunges. These exercises will be modified for each grade level so that all students can develop their muscles properly without risk of injury.

In addition to learning muscular exercises, students in the lower grades (K-2) will practice sports-specific skills such as dribbling, passing and shooting for basketball in group stations. We will continue to mix in locomotor movements and aerobic activities into the students workouts as well.

In the upper grades (3-5) , students will prepare for the fitnessgram push-up and curl-up test. Students should aim for completing 6 or more push-ups and 9 or more curl-ups. Click on the link below to see the complete fitnessgram standards for all of the assessments.

For this month, the upper grade students will be participate in Gaga and lead-up basketball activities.  Gaga, also known as Israeli Dodgeball, is a sport that incorporates eye-hand coordination, body control and spatial awareness.  As always, students will be expected to demonstrate sportsmanship, effort and enthusiasm in PE at all times.

Finally, all classes will earn incentives from the Rising Road Runners for participating in PE class and the running clubs.
