It’s going to be an exciting month for the students in Physical Education class. In all grade levels, the students are practicing variety of fitness exercises and sports specific skills.
In grades K and 1, the students are practicing skills that develop eye-hand coordination such as dribbling, passing and catching a ball. In addition, students are practicing movement around equipment such as hula hoops, hurdles and cones. At the conclusion of class, students are developing muscular strength and endurance by doing spaghetti and meatballs, abc push-ups, jumping jacks and squats.
In grades 2 and 3, students are practicing basketball specific skills such as dribbling, chest pass, bounce pass, rebounding, shooting and defense. Students are also practicing fitness exercises such as the push-up, curl-up, planks, leg lifts, squats and lunges. At the conclusion of class, we practice deep breathing, stretches and meditation to help students transition calmly to their next activity.
In grades 4 and 5, students are participating in team activities such as gaga and basketball. For gaga, students are playing a few variations such as team gaga and revenge. For basketball, students are participating in drills that improve their offensive and defensive skills. Finally, students will be taking
the push-up and curl-up tests for their fitnessgram requirements.
